After a long cold winter, we know we are not alone in welcoming warmer weather! As we head back outdoors to hike, bike, garden, or just sit outside and enjoy the return of a warm Spring evening, we may have unwelcome guests. For many of us around the country the end of winter also signals the return of ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes.


Annoying, yes! Just the thought of it all can make you itch! But these irritating little creatures can also bring along some serious health concerns with their bites. In lieu of spending beautiful warm days cooped inside or covered in a mosquito netting bubble, here are some simple, natural ways to keep the bugs at bay!


DIY Tick Repellent Recipe:

Make a simple repellent for you and your family by mixing 2 cups of distilled white vinegar and 1 cup water. Ticks may hate the smell and taste of vinegar, making a great repellent, but if you don’t want to spend your day smelling like salad dressing, add 20 drops of your favorite essential oil. Eucalyptus oil is a great choice as it has a wonderful soothing scent that also works as a tick repellent as do peppermint or citrus oils. Citrus oil and peppermint oils also help repel fleas. After mixing the solution, spray on your clothes, skin, and hair before going outside and reapply every four hours.
